About
WHO IS SLACKLINE AUSTRALIA?
Slackline Australia is Australia’s largest slacklining community including a professional network of slackliners. Slackline Australia, founded in May 2007, established many of the countries social network groups and sold the first slacklines in Australia. We are Australia’s only qualified certification agency for Slacklining. If you slackline, then we are you! We are committed to sharing the wonders and benefits of slacklining in all its forms and promoting balanced living. Currently Slackline Australia is a private company limited by shares, started by the Gittoes brothers, but is constantly evolving. Slackline Australia is open to working with all people in all forms. Many of our most valued members have gone from being passionate slackliners, to volunteers on projects to business owners and share owners. We are custodians in trust of Slacklining in Australia and are committed to the progression and sustainability of slacklining as a way of life for all Australians that are interested.

HOW CAN I GET MORE INVOLVED WITH SLACKLINING IN MY LOCAL COMMUNITY?
Slackine Australia has social groups that meet regularly and support each other; they are all listed below the community guidelines. Look us up on Facebook and Instagram. We also have professional businesses and leaders that are part of the network that are their to help effectively deal with necessary protocols and ‘paperwork’ to make magical, ground breaking slackline projects happen and keep the day to day basics running. We also have Professional team riders and Project team members to show what is possible. Our Centres of Balance are one of the best contact points for anyone wanting any type of training. If you want to become a leader they will utilise the Slackline Australia training programs to ensure you are of a world class standard. If you have something more to offer; then the doors are always open!
COMMUNITY SLACKLINING GUIDELINES
Below are a list of slacklining guidelines which have been assembled by the leaders of Australia’s slacklining communities. These guidelines are updated regularly as slacklining grows and evolves. Feel free to use (copy-paste) these guidelines for your own community slacklining groups/social media pages. These guidelines exist to keep slackliners safe and to help avoid slacklining bans in your local area.
***SLACKLINING GUIDELINES 2018 – PLEASE READ***
– Always use tree protection. This protects the tree and your slackline.
– Please avoid attaching your slackline to any ‘soft bark’ trees to avoid damage.
– Never attach your slackline to any government property or private company infrastructure (power poles, sign poles/posts etc), you may be liable for damages and you risk access for all slackliners.
– Be aware of your environment at all times.
– Never leave your line unattended…EVER.
– Check your gear before you use it and regularly whilst you are using it. Sometimes ratchets unlock and shackle pins can work themselves loose.
– Don’t rig your slackline across a path or place where people walk through regularly. Remember cyclists and pedestrians can easily miss a slackline.
– Please use wind dampeners or high visibility tape on long lines to make your line clearly visible.
– BACK UP YOUR GEAR! It’s as simple as tying parts (like a ratchet) to your anchor with the tail of your webbing or a sling.
– Check your rig; ensure all attachments are secured/done-up before tensioning, monitor during tensioning and final check before walking – sometimes we miss things! Stay safe!
– Consider rigging your rodeo-lines with a girth hitch to prevent slings slipping off of tree protection.
– Consider tree size carefully when rigging multiple lines.
– Choose appropriate trees for slacklining; 30cm diameter for lines <8kN and 40cm diameter for lines >8kN. See the International Slackline Association’s guide to tree selection for more information: http://slacklineinternational.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Slackline_rigging_treepro_leaflet_ISA_2016.pdf
– Respect authorities in all situations including police, council workers and parks/recreation officials. If they ask you to take down your line, first explain that you are causing no harm to the trees, if they persist then respect their decision. We need to keep a good reputation for slacklining in Australia.
– Speak with the slacklining community before you attempt highlining – plain and simple. We are a community for a reason, highlining can be very unsafe for beginners.
– Try to keep the equipment/bags of your community in one place to minimise impact and keep areas free of obstacles for other users of the area.
– Please be conscious of the environment; leave no trace; take all rubbish with you.
– Be careful in letting strangers try your lines as you could be liable for damages.
All feedback is welcome. If there is anything else you would like to add/subtract or change, please email us. Please report all access issues (slacklining bans, requests to take your slackline down, altercations/discussions with authorities etc) to Slackline Australia via email (director@slackline.com.au). We will do our best to find a resolution for you.
